My move date changed. What should I do?
Contact your move coordinator as soon as you can if your move dates have changed. He/she can process any changes to your plan and discuss updates. Keep in mind that your estimate may change depending on the dates you selected.
I need to add and/or remove items from my move plan. What should I do now?
Contact your move coordinator if you need to add or subtract any items from your move plan. He/she can assist you with any changes or updates. Keep in mind your cost estimate may change.
Who should I inform that I am moving?
At least 3-4 weeks before you move arrange to have appliances and utilities (power, gas, trash service, internet, etc) disconnected and arrange for new service for your new home. It’s also important to inform your family doctor, attorney, accountant, and school teachers/administrators (if applicable). If moving out of state, it is good idea to also obtain your medical, dental, and veterinary records when you notify these professionals. Don’t forget to fill out a US Postal Service change of address form for your mail to be forwarded.

How are wine collections moved?
Moving a wine collection just may be the only potential drawback of having one. Fine wines are hypersensitive to movement, humidity, temperature and exposure to light, any of which can threaten their character and chemistry. To protect your investment ─ and avoid ending up with a lifetime supply of vinegar ─ advance preparation is required to arrange for special handling of your wine collection during a move. Our operations manager will be able to provide you assistance and advice on getting your collection safely to your new home.
What is involved with an in-home estimate?
During an in-home estimate, a salesperson will visit your home and estimate the weight and size of all of your belongings that you will be moving. They’ll also discuss move details such as dates, packing services, etc., and address any questions you may have. At the end of the visit, your salesperson will draft a customized written estimate for your review.
What is the most important part of the moving process?
Choosing the right moving company, of course. Beyond that, packing well and ensuring that you have quality materials and plenty of tape and markers for labeling.
How should I begin packing? It looks like such a big job.
Start with the items you don’t need and work your way to the essentials. Pack a little each day to keep stress at bay.
How far in advance should I schedule moving or packing services?
Although we can handle anything, we recommend at least one month before the date you need to be out of your current home. Optimal is 6 to 8 weeks in advance to give you plenty of time to make your final decision.
How do I find out what moving expenses are tax deductible?

Can Carmack Moving and Storage move my pets?
No, we do not haul live animals. If you cannot transport your animal in your family vehicle, we may be able to suggest a carrier.
What is the best room to unpack first?
The bathroom, followed by the bedrooms and kitchen; start with the necessities only.
What type of packaging should I use for my breakables, such as crystal vases?
A Dish Pack is best. They should be wrapped individually and packed tightly, with heavy items on the bottom working your way up to lighter items.
How are mattresses stored during the move?
Mattress bags are recommended that fit the specific size of your mattress(es) and box springs to protect them from dust and dirt during your move.
How can I make my boxes less jarring?
Pad the bottoms and tops with crumpled newspaper. Wrap each item individually and use more crumpled newspaper to fill-in holes or gaps.
When is the best time to move?
The best time for your budget is in the early spring, fall or winter. May through September is ‘peak’ season when the demand for moving services is the highest; prices are higher and mover’s schedules fill up fast!
