About Carmack Moving

Planning is an essential ingredient in a successful move. The schedule below will help you plan a successful move.

One Month Before Your Move

  • Call CARMACK MOVING AND STORAGE TO set the date and time of your move and to arrange for storage, if necessary.

  • Clean out your attic, garage, and other storage areas. Throw out, donate, or sell anything you no longer want or need.

  • Organize for packing; if you are doing the packing, acquire all boxes and packing supplies you will need.

  • Send out or arrange for cleaning and repair of furniture, appliances, carpets, and drapes.

  • Begin to pack seldom-used items such as out-or-season clothes, seasonal decorations, and books.

  • Find all your important papers and put them in a file folder.

  • Start a file folder to keep track of all your moving expenses (some expenses may be tax deductible, call the IRS's tool free number, 800-434-3676, to request the latest moving expense bulletin).

Two Weeks Before

  • Contact all utilities to arrange disconnect and connect dates.

  • Begin packing items you will not need until after your move.

  • Pack a box of helpful household items and mark it "UNPACK FIRST".

  • Obtain all medical, dental, and veterinarian records; organize all driving license and car registration and insurance needs.

  • Pay all bills and close/open bank accounts.

  • Fill out change-of-address cards with your Post Office.

  • Make any necessary arrangements for transporting pets and plants.

One Week Before

  • Transfer any prescriptions.

  • Arrange for all deliveries to stop.

  • Begin to prepare appliances, TVs, stereos for packing and moving. Defrost all refrigerators and freezers.

MOVING DAY!

  • Advise movers of what they will and will not be moving. Do this on a walk-through before the work starts.

  • Make a thorough inspection of your old premises to make sure nothing has been left behind.

  • Be sure someone will be at your new residence to work with your movers. It is helpful to direct the movers as each item is brought in.
